OK---on to my Brother-bear... his surgery was a success. They did it on the March 1st(dad's bday) and said they believe they got all the cancer out and they removed the kidney with no issues too. He has recovered very well so far! Between my mom, sister and his girlfriend they were able to help him and stay with him.( i got very sick the day before his surgery so i kept my visiting limited and on top of that i was responsible for helping my sweet daddy out)
And now on to my Dad. By this point no one could even make up a story like this. 3 family members all in the hospital with very different situations and all very serious. And dad and granny celebrated their bdays in their hospital beds and Skyler's bday parties all took place in this time frame. Dad has just been the dr's and ours biggest puzzle yet. We first need to thank the Infectious Disease doctor for his wisdom, even when we were not sure about him and his thoughts. He looks like humpty dumpty, has zero bed-side manner and would show up at 11pm and midnight instead of the typical dr hours of crack of dawn. Through clients of mine who have battled very serious illnesses and other nurses we discovered even though he is very odd he is actually one of the best doctors you could get. So with this we are very grateful. Ok so onto what was wrong with dad.... He got sick out of the blue, like most do, on Feb 15. He was running fevers of 104 and 105 for 4 days when he decided he had to go to the dr b/c he was just out right exhausted and miserable. The doctor gave him some meds and he came home. His ankle had been slightly bothering him by that day so he decided it must be from him lying around so many days. By the 19th it was swollen and looked liked it had a bleed out in it. So by the time Sunday morning rolled around (we are all keep in mind gathered at the hospital with granny keeping vigil to see what will happen with her) it had taken even another turn to where my mother calls and thinks its a blood clot. So he is taken very quickly (by me, Shannon (we flew there in the car to see him for ourselves and to make sure he got the hospital as quick as possible) and mom) to the ER and they were thinking it was a clot too. After a Doppler ruled this out, and they discovered his White counts were very very elevated, they decided it must be Celluitis and he would need to stay overnight for IV ab's. And after this day he went downhill not up hill. Come to find out, the educated guess is he must have got bit by a brown recluse spider. He was in the hospital for 12 days and not till day 9 did he show improvement. It got very bad and the doctors were ready to amputate the foot. Talking about being tested and trying times. He has been home 2 wks and continues to recover. The doctor said he likely will not recover to normal but should get better with time. He can not go back to work for quite a while and is suppose to take it easy till he goes back to doctor in 30 days.
So my granny was on floor 6 and my brother and dad at one point were just doors apart on floor 4. We joked and said with all the visits from all of us we definitely paid for that newer parking deck they have at HH and should get free stock. So I hope this gives a clearer update on why we have all been ''m-i-a'' this last 6 wks.
I will post pics of dads foot and remember if you don't like gross things do not view them.
I hope to tomorrow update ya'll on Skyler and his new adventures he is taking and his new blue bedroom!!! We love you all and are grateful for everyones prayers and concerns through all of this. and a thank you to Skyler's school for being so understanding with his moods and him dealing with all of theses changes that were happening. and a thank you to my awesome best friend Heather for all the days she has picked up and taken care of Sky. She has helped be a mother to him when i have not been able to and has partnered with Dustin many times to get everyone fed and tucked away.
